On Nov. 25, a major US-Mexico border crossing in San Diego was closed for hours after a group of migrants on the Mexican side rushed the border area. This led the US Border Patrol agents to fire tear gas at the group.
US Customs and Border Protection said the migrants threw projectiles that struck several agents.
“Border Patrol agents deployed tear gas to dispel the group because of the risk to agents’ safety,” the agency said on Twitter.
The incident escalated the tensions that have been mounting since groups of Central American migrants began seeking entry into the United States.
The migrants’ action has drawn both negative and positive view of their presence. President Donald Trump has threatened to close the US-Mexico border as he said on Twitter “…We will close the Border permanently if need be…Congress fund the WALL!”
Joey Retzke, a senior at Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH) doubted Congress’ support for funding the wall in response to President Trump’s wishes. “It would cost a lot of money which we don’t have,” he said.
Mexico’s Interior Ministry said authorities will process and deport those migrants who tried to cross the border illegally back to their home country.
The Interior Ministry described Sunday’s incident as “acts of provocation” and warned that is could result in a serious incident on the border.
The Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen issued a statement. “DHS will not tolerate this type of lawlessness and will not hesitate to shut down ports of entry for security and public safety reasons….”

NIce article full of details. I think that this is a very difficult argument because is hard to have an impartial view of the facts of something about politics because everyone has different ideas. I think that this article is a good explanation of the facts without thoughts.

Sad this kind of stuff has to happen but very well written article, I love the how there is no bias throughout the article and very well used examples.

This article is good. I’m not going to say my own opinion because of reasons but we should just open them in my opinion.

Great job not putting bias in your piece. I feel the US needs to calm down with its immigration policies. We used to be the place for people who needed help. But now we are closing our borders.

Great article Justice! The United States was founded by immigrants and it seems silly to be against immigration. The United States should be a big family of people from all areas of the world and we should never discriminate against certain people. Keep up the great work!

This is a really serious issue and we need to find a solution to it fast, but I don’t think building that wall is gonna help. I feel that building the wall will only create more problems and our migrant issue will still be here.

Sad article yet well said, Justice. I find our president a mockery on how he uses Twitter to say things. Yet, That is just my opinion. The United States tends to not get better. It just gets worse. And this article explains it. Great job Justice.

This article was very well written, however, in my opinion it would have been stronger if you included more quotes from SPASH students. Overall, I enjoyed reading this article, it had great information.

I know this is a big topic of conversation right now. And everyone has there own views and opinion and we all need to respect each other. My personal opinion is that the U.S should close the border if people are trying to enter our country illegally. We have these laws for a reason. We shouldn’t just let people into our country we have to take precaution when it comes to this. The people need to understand that they can’t just force there way through. Great job on the article and really good information!

It is amazing that the government only used tear gas but that doesn’t make it any less unacceptable. Wonderful information.
