Instead of having full meals, every morning I ate a single protein bar. At lunch, I would just have an apple, however, at dinner; I would eat a full meal and have whatever my parents had made that night to eat.”

Poeske said, “The first three days of the diet absolutely sucked. People always say the first three days are the worst and I had to agree. After those days though, it got better, as I had become acquainted with the food I was eating and how little I needed to keep going.”Junior Austin Stankowski, a member of the SPASH varsity football team, said, “During the summer I take part in the morning Panther Fitness program which lasts two hours during which we do lifting and running. I run about two to three miles a week and during the summer, I was on the Stevens Point Sixers baseball team. All of that helped me get ready for the upcoming football season.”

Stankowski explained the Panther Fitness program. “In the morning, during the two-hour session, there are three different stations to do. Every day they switch it up, so you do not really know what you’re going to be doing first. The first station is a weightlifting station, which allows access to the entire strength and fitness room at SPASH. Many participants in the program take advantage of this and use it as much as possible. The second station is a running station where we mainly do a lot of sprinting from 20 yards to about 50 yards and we also work on running form. The third, and final station, is a strength and toning station. We do a lot of ab workouts and a lot of bicep curls and triceps extensions as well as use the TRX bands.”

Casey Summers, a member of the SPASH girls swim team, said, “During the summer, I swam, every day, every morning and I lifted weights sometimes, but not very often.”

Alexis Hall, another member of the SPASH swim team, said, “I swam every morning at the YMCA and that was pretty much it.”

Throughout SPASH, students everywhere, from every lifestyle, athletes or non-athletes, all use different methods to keep themselves fit during the off-season and the summer. This ranges from dieting, taking part in the Panther Fitness program, weight lifting, other forms of exercise, and even playing other sports in the off-season to keep in shape and to stay healthy.
