Remodel enhances a la carte service

The a la carte room has been very popular among students at SPASH and it needed to be revamped because the narrow walkways would often get congested during passing periods.  The service area was moved out of the kitchen and across the hall to the old tray return room. It now provides much easier access to the commons area.

Many groups were involved in the remodel including the district Food Service, Buildings and Grounds, and custodial departments, Ellis Stone, Van Art Electric and others.

Finishing touches were still being made the morning of the first day of school so it would be ready for students and staff to enjoy

SPASH food service employee Brenda Koback Varga is very excited. The new a la carte room is now brightly colored and decorated in an appealing way.  “It’s a part of SPASH history now,” Varga said.

Food service is available from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The room is also open during passing periods.

Opening early in the morning is fundamental in order to provide breakfast for students who need to be at school earlier than the start of the school day.

“I love how flexible the hours are. I can get a snack whenever I need to,” senior Caitlyn Leahy said.

Grabbing a healthy bite to eat has never been easier at SPASH, whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or a quick snack between classes. The room offers fruit, vegetables, whole meals, drinks, and students favorite snack foods.
