Odessa Turnquist, Writer
Hi! My name is Odessa Turnquist and I am a senior here at SPASH! My most definable feature is probably my life in theater. Since I was six years old, performing has been my favorite thing to do. In the past couple years, I have taken up directing musicals and workshops, as well as children’s choirs. Working with kids as young as 4 has helped me realize that we all need more “whimsy” in our lives, and that if we are having fun and spreading positivity, who cares what you do! Have those dance parties in the middle of Walmart, bring cookies to your advisory, because you might just make somebody’s day a little brighter.
On a completely different topic, I am a certified black belt in Taekwondo. From 3rd to 9th grade I would keep active between shows by participating in Martial Arts. It taught me about different cultures and a lot of history from around the world, as well as showed me how to persevere in times of hardship.
I am a very creative person. When the stage gives me a break, I express myself through painting, poetry, song, and various crafts! Writing has always been a form of expression that I love. Whether I piece together poems on my roof or type essays at school, I like putting my thoughts onto something physical.
One more thing you should know about me is that I am very outgoing. I am not afraid to call strangers “Party People,” or start a conversation with somebody I just met. Conversing with others is my favorite form of communication, one talk with anyone could give them a new perspective or maybe make their day. Giving others positivity and a little happiness is a goal I strive to achieve anywhere I can, because if I spread kindness, maybe other people will too!
