Dear Stranger,
Take a deep dive into your mind. Try to remember when you let the world zoom past you, not bothering to chase it. Turbo, and rapid: unfortunately that us many of our day-to-day lives, where we zoom from one thing to the next.
There was a season of my life when it was exactly like this. I would go from school, to cross country practice, to work. Barely squeezing enough time to eat in between all of the commotion. There was no time for breaks. I was going from one thing to the next, and I assume I am not the only one in the boat. We go to the next thing right away without taking a pause. Or when we are waiting, we wait with our phones or earbuds. We never wait with ourselves and ourselves only. I remember one instance during my break from work as soon as I sat down I whipped out my phone. This shows how much I wanted to fill up every slot of time I have and is something that everyone could grow in.
One song that relates to the busyness of life is Breathe by Jonny Diaz.
He sings, “90 miles an hour, going fast as I can/Trying to push a little harder, trying to get the upper hand/So much to do in so little time, it’s a crazy life.”
This quote relates to rushing through our lives in so many ways. Everyone always wants to rip through their day, going 90 miles an hour, not pausing to take a breather. But breathers in life are important. They make us reflect on ourselves. In ways we don’t often like. In ways that provoke deep thoughts. We don’t always like those questions because they put a pebble in our shoes. It makes us uncomfortable so much that we ignore the most important questions in life. I remember watching a video on this, when we allow ourselves to be so busy that we don’t have time to truly think or set time for it. We prevent ourselves from thinking of deep questions. Like “What’s the purpose of life?” “What is life all about?”. As a result of that, people are unhappy. They are not satisfied with their life. That is one of the reasons why you need to take a break and think by yourself, and only yourself. No phone, earbuds, or other distractions.
If there is one thing that I want you to take away from this, is that you need to remember to wait with yourself and yourself truly. Because that helps you be truly satisfied with your life. I think that is a pretty good tradeoff. Being happy and taking a break or rushing through life while being miserable. I’ll let you choose.
Life is indeed a highway, and let’s ride it all night long,
