Landen Maas, Hour 2

Looking for something completely fulfilling to do next week? The SPASH musical is right around the corner; and the cast is super excited to share it with all that attend. The musical this year is Pippin, written and composed by Stephan Shwartz, Bob Fosse, and Roger O. Hirson. These three men are well known for their creative strategies used during their works. The cast believes Pippin is worth seeing because of the story it tells, the comedy it presents, and the friendships created along the way because of it.

Pippin: Where Creation Comes to Life

First, the cast believes Pippin is worth seeing because of the story it tells. Pippin was originally performed in 1972 on Broadway, and then was brought back to Broadway as a revival (bringing back the show with a different cast,) in 2013.

The musical itself is about a young man named Pippin, who is not exactly sure what he wants to do with his life. He tries being king, falling in love, and a number of other things. Despite his efforts, Pippin feels emptiness as a result of these attempts; but continues to look for his “Corner of the Sky”.

The musical does a good job of keeping the audience engaged throughout the show by breaking the fourth wall and interacting with the audience. Not to mention it is a show full of action, love, hate, and death. Overall, it’s a roller coaster for the audience that will leave them on the edge of their seats.

What the Cast Wants You to Know

As the shows are just around the corner, the cast can’t help but speak out about how excited they are to share this experience with others. Paige Patton, SPASH Junior, playing the role Berthe (Pippin’s grandmother), states that they are “Excited to see the reactions when jokes are said, or when outlandish things are done.” The use of adult humor is hidden enough for a young audience to disregard the joke, leaving the older audience falling out of their seats laughing.

The SPASH musical crew has also assured to change some of the more mature scenes into family friendly scenes that everyone will enjoy. Jenna Smith, SPASH Senior, Player and ensemble member, is hopeful and excited about these changes. She states that she is, “Most excited to show people how hard we have all worked together to put this together with all the changes.” These twists will make the show unique and interesting for audiences that may have seen the Broadway show prior to seeing this version.

Friends at First Glance

While the audience will see what happens during this unique version of the show, it is important to know what happens behind the scenes. Jessica Balthazore, SPASH Senior, playing the role of Catherine (Pippin’s love interest), feels the cast “Came together right away.” She goes on to state that this was beneficial to the creation of this show because it got rid of the usual awkwardness at the beginning of the rehearsal period.

The cast has worked very hard together to assure the audience will have the time of their lives in a short amount of time. Of course, the cast collectively thanks the directors, costume designers, stage crew, orchestra, and all other contributors in the making of this spectacular show. This experience has created friendships between everyone as they all hope to reach for the goal of presenting it to an audience.

Conclusion and Showtimes

In conclusion, the cast believes Pippin is worth seeing because of the story it tells, the comedy it presents, and the friendships created along the way because of it. Pippin will be performed in the SPASH auditorium on January 26th, 27th, and 28th. All three dates have a 7:00 pm showtime as well as an additional show on January 28th at 1:00 pm. The cast looks forward to seeing all who attend and performing to the best of their abilities. But until then, “We’ve got Magic To Do, just for you.”
