Imagine Going to School for Only Four Hours a Day
October 24, 2022
Jordanian schools are completely different from American schools in terms of school uniforms, school time, and study materials. School starts at 8:00am and we go home at 12:00pm. The hours are short, and there are five classes. The school building was built of stone and consists of floors and has 12 mixed classes. The lessons were mathematics, history, geography, Arabic language and Islamic Education which includes teaching the rules of the prophet Muhammad and respecting other religions.
We spent many, very beautiful days with friends and teachers. I learned some English words at my Jordanian school, but the public schools used to fear the English language, so I did not learn very much English. I, unfortunately, did not study in private schools which did teach English. Both schools teach well, but private education is better.
The breakfast served in schools is milk, cocktails (consisting of milk, bananas, strawberries and chocolate), cheese pies (bread with cheese inside), thyme, and pizza. After lunch, we had different sports, and after that, belly dancing and teaching dabke(Arab folk dance that combines circle and line dancing ). Once a month, the school organized trips outside the city where we lived, to famous and natural places. I would go out with my friends to the huge amusement park. We have many friends from several countries: Dubai, Turkey, Syria and Jordan. You can’t get out of school or anytime away from work because school is your responsibility. All the time, I was studying with hard work and personal diligence to get a full mark.

Finally, I came to America to study and graduate from college as a doctor.. Had it not been for the grace of God, the grace of Mrs. Dulak, all the teachers and their help; I wouldn’t know anything about school in America. God willing, I will graduate and raise the head of my mother and father; make them proud.

Dana, your introduction was very good! I like how you started by comparing your education in Jordan with your education in the US. I also like that you describe the differences between the classes, the hours in a school day, and the lunch. The parentheses were very helpful, and an awesome edition! Nice job!
