Mental health is a crucial but often overlooked aspect of overall well being. Mental health affects individuals across all ages around the world. Despite conservations, stigma, and misunderstanding still prevents many people from seeking the support that they need and raising awareness in the community not only fosters empathy and acceptance but also can build a stronger society by providing education and promoting resources where people can seek help.,
someone to talk to and where no one can feel alone with their struggles.
The struggles of mental health
I interviewed my stepmother named Kelly about mental health. She works in healthcare and is around people who struggle with mental health everyday. I asked her about her experiences with mental health and she didn’t struggle with it but she had an uncle who did, she said he never really got the help he needed. This can be due to many of the stigmas, and misinformation people hear about mental health help. Many people are uneducated on the many different options for help. Some of the more simple ways to help can be connecting with others, taking care of your body, and just practicing self-care. “It is possible to help a person to change the way they think and to teach them positive coping strategies that can mitigate and reduce stress levels.” These options can be helpful but not always what everyone needs, you can also seek professional support. Things like therapy, medication, or reaching out to friends, family, or a mental health help line can help.
Rumination: The thoughts in your head
Rumination, it’s when you keep thinking about the same negative thoughts over and over again. Like in the article A Cycling of Negative Thinking they talk about how rumination has a big impact on people’s mental health and with the thoughts in their head. “Rumination involves repetitive thinking or dwelling on negative feelings and distress and their causes and consequences”. They mention that with these thoughts it can lead into more serious things and more permanent damage like harming themself or even worse a suicide. Instead of solving this issue they will get themselves stuck and keep replaying the event that made them have these thoughts or will keep making them think about the event that went down. Along with this problem people will make themselves believe that they were the problem like in the article they mentioned “ led to depression or anxiety was “by leading a person to ruminate and blame themselves for the problem.”. A way to help get out of the mind game is to try to stay on the positive side of things and keep yourself distracted to help yourself work through those tough times.
Ways to get help
You can see there are many different options for mental health help, but it can also be hard for many people to seek out this help. People who are struggling with mental health problems tend to stop taking care of themselves. It can be hard for people to do their normal routine like showering, brushing their teeth, eating, and drinking. When people stop doing these things it can be very hard for them to get back on track and get back into their normal routine. When mental health gets so bad to this point sometimes they need to seek more professional help like therapy, counseling and even medication to get themself back on track. Getting professional help can cause a problem for some people because it can cost a lot for medication and therapy.
In conclusion mental health isn’t a joke and in reality is a serious problem that people all around the world struggle with even if others know it or if they bottle it up but either way it is still overlooked and without getting some sort of help it can end in a sad tragedy for a solution for a temporary problem. Therefore if you are struggling with mental health there are ways and there are people that care about you, that are willing to help get you back on track.
