Wage war is a band that originally started in Florida back in 2010 with the alternate name Empires, before switching it to what it is now back in 2013. Over the years wage war has released 5 albums and 22 singles. One of the albums, Manic, from 2021, had the most emotional song that had more meaning in the lyrics than what you may think. Songs in that album go over stories, tragedies, and life struggles that the members of the band have experienced.
Examples
An example would be the song “Circle The Drain” which has lyrics that seem to self degrade, and even questioning if they can restart life. A lyric that seems to stick from that song would be, “If we really wanna change, we have to learn from our mistakes.” This shows that the only way for us to move forwards would be to accept the things we have done and learn from them to be a better person. The songs help to remind us that the members of the band are also people who have lived through hard times, and that helps connect us with the music, and the meaning of the songs.
Another great song that would help connect the listener and the band would be, “Slow Burn” with one of the first lines being, “I never seem to give myself the time to heal.” along with other lyrics in this song such as, “make sure I feel everything cuz i’ll never learn.” and, “I never know who i’m supposed to be.” All of these lyrics have a message of self hate and not liking who they are. Not being comfortable with who they are.
Details
The songs that are on this album are meant to be a way for lead vocalist Briton Bond to talk about and get things off of his chest that have occurred in his life, such as panic attacks or the feeling of self hate. A quote from Seth Blake, lead guitarist, stated, “Lyrically, it’s very mental health based and outlines the feeling of a panic attack, something that Briton and I have both been through and dealt with over the last couple of years.” further showing how this album was a way for the band to let off pressure and pain that has been holding them back.
When my father got to go to one of their concerts and meet the band he was able to connect to the music because he experienced pain and damage that was being detailed in the lyrics. My dad enjoys music because it is something that he is able to listen to well doing anything, and it helps to calm him. Music helps a lot of people feel better about themselves because they are able to connect to the lyrics, and this allows them to appreciate the band even more. I love music and it helps me calm down, especially after a long day. Music helps me be in my own place, and stay forced on what needs to be done.
Examples #2
The songs are able to say more than just words, an example would be “Teeth”, and the name of this song is different from the rest along with having a name the gives you a uncomfortable feeling, and this is fitting with the lyrics, “Take what you need, use me up and then leave, Hard to believe you were company I shouldn’t keep” a uncomfortable relationship were he was used and not truly cared for. It is something that is unpleasant to think about but it’s also something that happens, and that others will sadly relate to.
Another song that has a very impactful message would be. “If tomorrow never comes” with the verse, “We walked a path we can’t retrace, And lost ourselves along the way, Now we’re caught in the crossfire, with you I feel safe
We’re beyond the veil in eternal embrace, We walked a path we can’t retrace (we took everything for granted)” doing things that will have a permanent marking on them for life, things that you will live to regret, but no you can’t change what happened.
Wage war is a band that makes very impactful music that is a way for the band members to express themselves and the trauma that they have gone through. The album Manic did a perfect job at encapsulating it. Wage war wants everyone to be able to listen to their music and feel included and able to connect to what is being said over hearing words with no meaning. An impactful band with many stories to tell and share with the world.
