“Depression is a serious topic and it can cause really bad mental health concerns, including suicidal thoughts”
Depression is sometimes hard to see in anyone, but especially teenagers. Many don’t understand that depression is not just being sad or that you can just get over it. You can have a friend or family member who could be dealing with it and you won’t even know it.
You can calm depression by doing things like going for a walk, getting fresh air, taking deep breaths, but it can be hard to get rid of it completely.
“Hanging out with friends could calm you down too.”
Suffering from a mental illness is a really serious problem especially in teenagers.
“Teenagers suffer from depression more than adults. 20% of teenagers who suffer from it commit suicide.”
Teenagers between the ages of 11 to 18 suffer the worst from depression, and the most the most prone to suicide. Having a mental illness also affects your mental health.
Some causes of depression in recent years are Increased social media use, pressures at home and school, and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Teenagers who have an addiction mostly are triggered to suffer from depression”.
I think that teens struggling with addiction get more depressed because the thing they are putting in their body is making them feel temporarily happy by numbing their pain. But when they don’t have it in their system they feel worse than ever and then need to keep taking the drugs to make them feel normal again. They want to feel good, but end up in a vicious cycle.
“Persistent low mood and loss of interest in activities, often accompanied by fatigue, sleep disturbances, and changes in appetite, alongside feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, and difficulty concentrating”
