The Classics Club is a new book club at Stevens Point Area High School. English teacher Anna Tempus is the club advisor, along with student advisors sophomores Meridyth Vogel and Ali Rudiger who had the idea for this club earlier this year.
The Classics Club meets every other Friday from 3 to 4:00. The meetings are held in room 2036.
The club will be reading classic and canon literature. According to wiseGEEK, “Canon literature is a term used widely to refer to a group of literary works that are considered the most important of a particular time period or place.” They also will be discussing what books belong under these categories.
The Classics Club will be interactive and will include more than just reading. Tempus said, “The club will give you the initiative to read in a non-classroom like setting, it will also prepare you for AP Lit and college classes.”
