On December 20, 2016 the Technical Education Department hosted their third annual Elective Showcase Night at Stevens Point Area Senior High.

It is a fun filled night, where students from PJ Jacobs, Ben Franklin, and other area Jr. Highs are welcome to come and met with teachers and students in elective departments at SPASH to learn what each class and department has to offer from education to possible future career areas. This year 120 students attend the Elective Showcase Night learning of possible electives they can take during their high school career at SPASH.

Ryan Kawski, Career and Technical Education Coordinator, Kelsey Haelfrisch, Administrative Assistant, and Gina Jordan, Career Center Assistant, are head of planning and hosting the Elective Showcase Night. They are in charge of communicating with other SPASH departments, advertising, and purchasing materials.

Departments attending this event are the Agriculture Department, Business and Computer Science Department, Family Consumer Science Department, Technical Education Department, Art Department, World Languages Department, and Music Department. Each department having hands on and interactive activities to promote their classes to future SPASH students.

Students are giving a “passport” when they attend the Elective Showcase night. As they attend each department they receive a stamp/sticker on their passport. At the end of the event if they have at least 10 stamps/stickers on their passport they get into the SPASH basketball game for free and are entered into a drawing for a pair of Beat Headphones.

The purpose of this event is to create awareness of Stevens Point Area Senior High’s wide variety of electives to new students coming into SPASH. Students will then have some idea of elective course they would like to take, and also to find new electives they didn’t know SPASH offered. It also opens students up to Career and Technical classes that will benefit them in careers they would like to pursue.
